What a great trip!
The four of us have some great memories that will last us a lifetime. A special thanks to our tour guide, Fidel. His thorough knowledge, infectious spirit and genuine enthusiasm for this unique part of the World really made the trip very special. He could enlighten us on even our most oblique questions and brought the history and culture to life with great descriptions and anecdotes. He deserves special recognition and a "shout out". Please pass on our sincere appreciation to his superiors in Peru. He turned a great trip into a trip of a lifetime! Again thank you Fidel! Well done!
In addition to the super professionalism of Fidel, the entire trip was organized with Swiss-like precision, great accommodations and very competent team members. Hats off to the entire group.
Machu Picchu has long topped my "Bucket List" since being introduced to it in junior high Spanish Class. I even build a model from Plaster-of-Paris and wood. It left an impression. From that time I dreamed that somehow I would stand in the middle of what that model meekly tried to represent.
So for over 50 years my preconception of what it would be like to literally be in the midst of its ruins had grown to an unrealistic expectation that I feared could not be met. But I was wrong.
Climbing up the path from the bus drop off and turning the corner to view that first panorama was breathtakingly inspiring...and it only got better from there.
The setting was awe inspiring with panoramic hikes including the physically challenging Huayna Picchu peak, as well as the Sun Gate and the Inca Bridge. There is nothing like climbing up that last 100 almost vertical feet up the iconic Huayna Peak at over 9,000 feet struggling to catch our breath. And the thought of the steep decent from that peak was even more intimating. But we made it and are grateful that we could share such a unique experience together.
Cusco was also an unexpected surprise. Our timing was perfect coinciding with the Festival of Corpus Christi. What color, pageantry and energy! Such fun. What a great old vibrant historic city! We now will start planning our next "guys trip".
