If Peruvian food and Inca history piques your interest, you should join our special group tour in December. Your first day in Peru includes two tours of Lima: a food tour of this up-and-coming gastronomic capital and a historical tour of the colonial city. For the next five days you will be immersed in Inca history while touring the Sacred Valley, the Incan citadel of Machu Picchu and Cusco, the capital of the Inca empire. In the Sacred Valley you will visit include Pisac, Awanakancha, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Maras and Moray. The tour of Cusco includes stops at the nearby ruins of Puka Pukara, Kenko, Tampu Machay, and the renowned fortress and religious site of Sacsayhuaman.
If you have extra days for your trip we can arrange trip extensions to Lake Titicaca and/or three nights at Hacienda Concepción in the Amazon rainforest.
Upon arrival in Lima, you will be met in the arrivals hall and transferred to your Lima hotel.
Overnight at the El Tambo Hotel, breakfast included - 2 nights.
The morning gastronomic tour of Lima starts in a local roaster in the bohemian district of Barranco where the coffee beans are hand-picked daily for an organic Peruvian coffee. You will also tour the republican streets of Barranco, home to artists, musicians and the city’s top art galleries. Continue to a traditional local market in the district of San Isidro where you can try exotic fruits and products and learn the ancient myths and legends associated with them. The next stop is one of the city’s top seafood restaurants (cebicherias): Embarcadero 41 Fusión in Miraflores district. You will discover the secrets to the perfect Cebiche and Pisco Sour as you prepare the dish and cocktail yourself with the head chef and bartender. The last stop is for lunch at Huaca Pucllana Restaurant, within a pre-Inca archaeological complex. This restaurant is so impressive that the last King of Spain (Juan Carlos), Mick Jagger, Bill and Hillary Clinton, just to name a few, have made sure not to miss it during their trips to Lima. Enjoy a variety of gourmet Peruvian dishes as well as four different desserts and another pisco-based cocktail.
This afternoon a Colonial Tour of Lima begins with some of Lima's Republican highlights: Museum of Art, Miguel Grau monument, Palace of Justice, and Plaza San Martin. Then, visit Lima's Colonial churches, promenades and palaces which reflect Peru's Spanish heritage: The Cathedral, “Plaza Mayor”, Government, Archbishop, and Osambela Palaces, Santo Domingo and St. Peter Churches, and the Monastery of San Francisco.
